# gawkbot

> gawkbot is the open source Grok Bot. gawkbots automate your menial work via AI models and build you microapps to manage the outcome, so that you have a false sense of control. Free, runs on your machine with Claude Code, Codex, Opencode, or a local model, and every send, commit, purchase, and delete waits for your approval.

gawkbot is an independent, source-available project under the Sustainable Use License. It is a parody of xAI's Grok Bot and is not affiliated with xAI, X Corp, or Cursor.

- Install: `npx gawkbot@latest` (needs Claude Code, Codex CLI, or Opencode signed in)
- Price: free, no account, no cloud, no seats, no usage fees
- Runs on: your machine, with your keys; local models keep everything offline
- Models: Claude Code (default), Codex CLI, Opencode, local models, Hermes Bot, OpenClaw
- Bot computers: not yet; each bot has its own directory and tool allowlist on your machine
- Approvals: per action on every external write, never a blanket grant
- Platforms: macOS and Windows desktop apps, Linux via the CLI
- Licence: Sustainable Use License (read, modify, self-host; do not resell as a hosted product)
